The Hawks fell to a 2-1 defeat against Hayes and Yeading United at Westleigh Park yesterday. Early defensive mistakes left the side 2-0 down with just 14 minutes on the clock, and it wasn’t until Nic Ciardini found the net from the penalty spot on the edge of injury time that the hosts began a too-late come back.

A handball by Ryan Woodford let United take the lead after 9 minutes when Jack Mills converted from the penalty spot, and the hapless Hawks’ defender then let his opponents in again just five minutes later when a short back pass was intercepted by Kelvin Bossman. The former Hawk’s shot was blocked by Ross Fitzsimons, but the Hawks’ keeper could do nothing about Kamaron English tapping in the rebound.

The hosts finally got on the score sheet in the 89th minute after substitute striker Scott Jones was pushed in the box, giving Nic Ciardini his chance to score from the spot.

The defeat sees the Hawks drop to 16th in the table, with eight points now from seven games played.
