The Hawks fell to a 5-0 defeat at the hands of league neighbours Portsmouth on Tuesday night at Westleigh Park. The hosts were behind inside a minute of kick off when Ryan Woodford’s attempted clearance cannoned back off Pompey trialist Ryan Bird and caught out new keeper signing Scott Bevan. As the half continued Bird hit the post and then added a second four minutes from the break when he turned home Jed Wallace’s speculative effort.

Pompey added three more in the second half as the Hawks wilted in the summer evening heat. Woodford deflected Tom Craddock’s cross into his own net in the 68th minute, and two late goals from Romain Padovani and Andy Barcham completed the score line.
