With just one win in their previous nine games, the Hawks’ season received a much needed shot in the arm at York Road yesterday where Lee Bradbury’s men inflicted an emphatic 3-1 defeat on hosts Maidenhead United.
Tuesday night’s dispiriting FA Cup defeat to Glouctester City left the side in need of kick-starting their league campaign, with a defeat yesterday potentially leaving the side on the edge of the relegation zone. The three points though keep the Hawks clear of the clutch of underperforming sides at the foot of the table in 14th place and within five of the playoffs.
Sahr Kabba struck first for the Hawks in the 22nd minute when he outstripped his marker to fire a shot past last season’s third choice Hawks keeper Matt Peglar. But the hosts equalised quickly five minutes later when Danny Green’s shot came back off returning keeper Scott Bevan for Michael Malcolm to finish.
Half time substitute Scott Jones did the work to set up Kabba for his second just four minutes after the restart, and the striker continued to test the home defence for much of the half. It was Steve Ramsey though who ensured the win from the spot in the 70th minute after he was awarded a controversial penalty for a trip.
