The Hawks finished their pre-season with a low key 2-1 defeat at the hands of Southampton’s Academy side tonight. Hawks’ boss Shaun Gale used the encounter to have a final look at many of the trialists and academy players who have featured through the last nine games ahead of Saturday’s season opener at Boreham Wood. Saints opened the scoring just five minutes in when Sam Hoskins intercepted a poor back pass from Ryan Gadd and rounded keeper Lyall Beasley to slot home from the side of the goal. The visitors added a second in the 19th minute after Lloyd Isgrove’s bursting run on the left outstripped Marco Bianchi. Hoskins picked up Isgrove’s pass and threaded the ball on neatly for Corby Moore to hammer a thunderous shot into the top corner from 20 yards. The Hawks pulled one back after the break in the 63rd minute. Paul Hinshelwood’s free kick allowed Steve Ramsey to draw a fantastic save from Jack Dovey, but the keeper managed only to parry the shot as far as Sam Pearce, who slammed the ball back into the net from close range. |
