Havant and Waterlooville’s sun baked pre-season continued at Westleigh Park this afternoon, where an 89th minute penalty allowed Hawks Captain Jamie Collins to cancel out Terry Fearns’ 51st minute opener in a 1-1 draw with Blue Square North outfit AFC Telford United.

An unusually fiery opening for a friendly saw Steve Jagielka and Andy Brown booked for the visitors before Ian Simpemba’s bullet header into the back of the net from a Brett Poate cross was ruled out for a push in the 6th minute.

Fearns made an equally attention grabbing attempt at goal when his narrow angled effort cut across Kevin Scriven, but Jay Conroy was on hand to hack the shot clear. Scriven then did better when he charged down Brown and blocked a further shot from Telford.

It was the visitors who continued to look the brighter side in front of goal, and when Liam Blakeman cut in past Conroy to lift a shot toward the crossbar, Scriven was forced to push it over the bar to be sure. Gasson then head clear off the line from the corner.

After Collins struck a lazy shot wide, it wasn’t until the 34th minute and an excellent rifled shot from Wilkinson that the hosts looked equal to their guests. Ryan Young did well to grasp the ball as it headed for the underside of the bar.

Six minutes into the second half Telford took a justified lead when Brown took the ball almost to the line and turned it back square across the face of goal to FEARNS, who slipped it inside the back post.

A lazy half followed for both sides in the heat, punctuated only by two further dangerous efforts from Brown. A minute from the end however the hawks were given a lucky let-off when Jay Gasson’s cross was clearly handled by Indy Khela, leading to a last ditch penalty that COLLINS thumped high into the net.
