Jake Newton

(Right Defence)
Born 1984
As a teenager, Jake played five seasons with Hampton and Richmond Borough’s youth side before joining the Kingston College Football Academy, from where he broke into Staines Town’s first team in 2003. With Staines he spent time on loan at Chalfont St Peter and also played for Southampton’s University side.

In February 2005 he signed for Bashley, but returned to Staines at the end of that season, going on to play 140 games for the side from 2006 through to 2007/08. He was also awarded both the Players’ and Supporters’ Player of the Year awards in 2006, and gained his first international caps for Guyana in February 2008, playing two friendlies against Cuba. Since then he has made regular appearances for the South American side.

Jake signed for the Hawks in July 2009 after impressing during trials, and quickly installed himself as an essential member of the side, making 171 appearances over his first four seasons; a total in the current squad only bettered by Steve Ramsey. His achievements were crowned in 2011 when he was awarded the Players’ Player of the Season
