Three wins in six days for busy Hawks

The Hawks completed the first of several busy weeks yesterday with a 1-0 win at Eastbourne, extending their unbeaten run in the league to eight games. The victory was made more impressive by the fact that the side had already beaten Borehamwood away on Thurday night 2-0, and secured a place in the final of the Hamsphire Senior Cup on Monday night by beating AFC Porchester 4-0.

The Cup win, which pits the Hawks against Basingstoke Town at Fratton Park in May, saw Christian Nanetti open the scoring early on with a penalty before Denis Oli doubled the lead in the dying seconds of the fist half. Alex Prezpolewski then scored twice in the second half to give the Hawks their first Senior Cup Final appearance since losing to Aldershot Town in 2002.

Then on Thursday the Hawks began a run of no less than four away games to be played in the space of eight days with a goal at the end of each half at Borehamwood. Perry Ryan struck first just before the break, and then Daniel Blanchett scored the Hawks’ second with an audacious lob from the centre circle on the edge of injury time.

Then yesterday at Eastbourne Nigel Atangana’s 31st minute strike was the only goal of the game, giving the Hawks a further three points that now sees them 12th in the table and just three further wins behind the playoff places.
