Fans salute Sharp as stalwart defender leaves WLP

Hawks stalwart Neil Sharp bid goodbye to fans at Saturday night’s award buffet, saying that he’ll take many fond memories with him from his four seasons with the side. Sharp’s personal life means a move to the Midlands in the summer, and having become a father during the season just finished, a shift in priorities means travelling down to Hawks games would be unrealistic.

Fans have been quick to praise the services of a man who has been integral to the team during his tenure, having racked up 154 appearances in addition to ten memorable goals scored with trademark bullet headers from corners. However, Hawks fans may yet again encounter Sharp; it is rumoured that he is now in talks with Cambridge City for next season.

Other players now departed from Westleigh Park include striker Gavin McCallum, who cited travel difficulties from his west country home as the reason, along with Jamie Day who has returned to Grays after his loan spell, Nick Hannides and Darren Annon, who has now signed for Redbridge.
