Drop gets closer as Hawks go second bottom
Sat Mar 31, 2012 : 18:10
The Hawks drop to second bottom tonight after losing 3-2 at Basingstoke’s Camrose ground. The Dragons took the lead in the 18th minute when Jide Ogunbote’s cheeky over-shoulder flick saw the ball drop inside the back post. The hosts then went two up in the 32nd minute when Joe Dolan’s attempt to clear Matt Warner’s free kick from far on the right ended up in his own net.
The visitors then fell further behind six minutes from the hour when Nathan Smart’s low drive left Lyall Beasely with what looked like a routine save, only for the ball to squeeze between his legs and over the line.
The Hawks battled on and were given a ray of hope in the 70th minute when Christian Nanetti curled a free kick beautifully round the wall and inside the near post. But it was the hosts who helped the side to a second goal two minutes into injury time when Ollie Palmer’s close shot from the left was turned home by Ogunbote.
