Predatory Wimbledon have the edge

Thu Feb 16, 2012 : 09:42

The Hawks last night held out for 50 minutes against a mixed eleven side brought to Westleigh Park by League Two side AFC Wimbledon. The final 3-0 scoreline does little to reflect the balance of most of the game, with the professional visitors turning on the style just enough to beat their non league opponents.

Reece Jones broke the deadlock in the 50th minute when he finished after Hawks’ keeper Lyall Beasely blocked an initial shot from Ricky Wellard, but it was a double whammy in the 74th and 76th minutes that finished off the home side.

Charlie Strutton made it two when again capitalising on a first save by Beasely, and then virtually from the restart the Hawks switched off completely and allowed Christian Jolly to walk home the easiest goal he’ll score this season.

Of note for the Hawks, the game gave the side an important run out ahead of this weekend’s clash at Chelmsford, and gave starts to regular substitutes, as well as mysterious Portuguese striker ‘Ishmael’ and academy goal keeper Justin Courtnadge.
