Cards no jokers in second holiday encounter
Fri Jan 1, 2010 : 18:30
Woking blitzed the Hawks’ New Year with a 2-0 defeat at Kingfield this afternoon. Against toothless guests, the Cards put on an impressive display that showed their promotion credentials; taking the lead after just 13 minutes when Matthew Wright pounced after Jake Newton blocked an initial shot from Guiseppe Sole.
The Hawks could have equalised when Tom Hutchinson handled the ball inside the Woking box, but Luke Nightingale sent the penalty over the bar. The home side’s forceful approach then earned them a second goal in the 61st minute when Moses Ademola’s shot from wide on the right was palmed clear by Aaron Howe and Sole dispatched the rebound from close range.
