Poor Hand of Cards costs Woking

Sat Dec 26, 2009 : 18:57

Havant and Waterlooville’s first ever league encounter with relegated Conference Premier side Woking ended explosively at Westleigh Park this afternoon after a penalty helped the nine man Cards to a 1-1 draw with the Hawks.

Ian Simpemba’s close range finish from Gary MacDonald’s free kick put the hosts ahead in the 37th minute, and when Jamie Hand was dismissed in the 63rd after he cut down Steve Walker it looked like the odds were in favour of the home side.

But Woking struck back just two minutes after that when Ivan Forbes overturned Tony Sinclair in the Hawks area, and Guiseppe Sole sent Aaron Howe the wrong way from the spot. Woking substitute Nathan Pinney then followed Hand from the pitch with a red card in injury time after an altercation with Howe over the ball.
