Hawks make it four in a row
Mon Feb 8 2010, 22:10
The Hawks came from behind at a freezing Westleigh Park tonight to over turn visitors Bishop’s Stortford 2-1; chalking up their fourth consecutive win in the process.
When Scott Shulton put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot after keeper Aaron Howe collided with Matt Jones it looked as though the home side’s winning streak was over, but a committed second half display turned the game on its head.
Manny Williams struck first in the 53rd minute when he smashed home the rebound after Blues keeper Deniz Mehmet pushed away Mustafa Tiryaki’s header, and then Steve Walker concluded a brilliant sweeping move from the Hawks nine minutes later when he buried Williams’s delicate knock back from the line.

Fans fund new pitch covers
Sat Feb 6 2010, 20:00
HawkSupport swung into action last week when the club requested help with buying more covers for the Westleigh Park pitch. The Supporters’ Club agreed to donate £1500 for extra covers that mean in bad weather the pitch can be almost completely covered, helping to stop the kind of postponements that have plagued the club through January.
“When you run a club on the kind of budget we do, not having a regular cash flow is a massive inconvenience,” Club Secretary Trevor Brock said today.

Williams hat-trick scorches Dragons
Sat Feb 6 2010, 18:41
Worcester City took the Hawks to the wire in a dramatic encounter at Westleigh Park that saw Manny Williams find the net three times for the Hawks to win 3-2.
Williams put the hosts on the road to their third consecutive win from the penalty spot after 30 minutes, and then doubled the lead seven minutes after the break when he forced the ball past keeper Jake Meredith on the Worcester line.
Mark Clyde struck back for the visitors in the 67th minute with a wonderful twisting volley from 18 yards, but Williams topped it 13 minutes later when he connected with Joe Tabiri’s brilliant forward ball to send it on past Meredith.
Alfie Carter then snuck a header past Aaron Howe in the 89th minute, and the Hawks keeper preserved the home win in injury time when he pushed Gary Walker’s last ditch effort over the bar.

Barnet duo back for more
Fri Feb 5 2010, 15:27
The Hawks have managed to secure the services of Joe Tabiri and Luke Medley on loan from League Two side Barnet for a second time.
Popular among fans from their previous tenures, midfielder Tabiri featured in five games during November and December last year, bringing a controlling presence to the midfield, while Medley lit up the wing in eight games at the close of last season.

Walker walks after whacking in winner
Sat Jan 30 2010, 18:12
A single goal was enough for the Hawks to beat local rivals Eastleigh in a hotly contested local derby at the Silverlake Stadium this afternoon. Steve Walker’s effort fired low through the box went in off the foot of the post after 64 minutes of half chances from both sides.
But in a dramatic twist Walker was dismissed with a second yellow card just five minutes later, leaving the Hawks to play out the last 25 minutes of the match with ten men for the second time in a week.

Selley and Hector in, Forbes out
Tue Jan 26 2010, 09:21
The Hawks last night named two new arrivals in the squad that took on Bromley in the form of experienced ex-professional midfielder Ian Selley, and Reading Academy youngster Michael Hector.
Selley has been drafted in from Dorchester to add an experienced hand to the midfield, with credentials that speak for themselves. Starting in 1992 as a trainee at Arsenal, he stayed with the Gunners for five years before a £500,000 move to Fulham in 1997. From there he signed for MK Dons in July 2000, starting a three year stint with the club during which time he went on loan twice to Southend. Joining the non-league game in August 2003, he signed for Woking and made 106 appearances for the Cards in four seasons, scoring 21 goals. Since then he has also played for Lewes and Grays Athletic before joining Dorchester.
Hector meanwhile comes from Championship side Reading’s Academy, is also a midfielder, and is still only 18 years of age. Hopes that Joe Tabiri might make a return from Barnet have been dashed due to matters out of the Hawks’ hands, and midfielder Ivan Forbes has been released in a move set to free up finances to pay for the new arrivals. Loan striker Elliott Charles is also now looking for a club after being released by Barnet at the end of his tenure with the Hawks.

Hawks to play FA Cup 3rd Round tie at the third attemptSat Jan 23
The Hawks Ladies face the biggest game in their short history tomorrow when they take on Cardiff City in the 3rd Round Proper of the FA Cup. Originally drawn as a home tie, the game has twice been postponed because of the horrendous winter weather and is now instead set to switch to Wales and the Cardiff International Sports Stadium, kick off 2pm.
Club Secretary Trevor Brock said today:
“It’s not a game that favours us because we’re the underdogs and their side features six full Welsh International players. It’s a shame we’ve had to give away the home advantage, but we’ll give them a tough test because the reward on offer is something special.”
In an equivalent to the men’s side’s history setting game against Liverpool, the winner of tomorrow’s game will next week play a fourth round match against the internationally famous Doncaster Rovers Belles, currently third in the highest league in Women’s Football.

Academy UpdateSat Jan 9
The Hawks Academy side has been hit hard by weather conditions through the winter so far, meaning the side have played just four games since the end of November. Way back on November 11th the side recorded a 4-0 win against Weymouth (report) followed a week later by a win away at Cirencester Town (report). Controversy followed in December when the Hawks lost 3-2 away at Team Bath (report) and then on Januray 4th the side made good progress in the Hampshire Midweek Floodlit Cup with an 8-0 win against Petersfield Town (report).

Hawks draw Cardiff in third roundMon Jan 4
Having suffered a string of postponements due to the recent extreme weather, the Ladies side have managed to complete just one fixture in the last month; finally managing to face off against Plymouth Argyle at the third attempt. The second round FA Cup tie, a home draw for Plymouth, was eventually completed on home turf for the Hawks, and was a 5-2 win.
The Hawks now face Cardiff City in the third round of the FA Cup this Sunday, a side who ply their trade in the league above the Hawks.
